Important Information about camping on Thames

Importantly, please ensure you have read the Handbook and Staff Supplement before you arrive on site.

Pre-arrival information

We're looking forward to welcoming you to the Jamboree, and thank you volunteering to be on our team. As a member of Thames Subcamp, we want you all to have make yourselves at home and enjoy the experience of camping next to your fellow staff members - it's a great place to make new friends and catch up with old friends!

Campers/Caravans/Trailer Tents

  • Space and Allocation: Although space is limited, we aim to accommodate everyone. If you plan to bring a trailer tent, it must be pitched with campers/caravans and not on the main staff campsite. Please email staff.support@eij.org.uk to allocate a space
  • First Come, First Served: Spaces are allocated on a first come, first served basis. To be pitched next to friends, ensure you arrive together
  • Electrical Hook-Ups: Available if required
  • Toilet Maintenance: Jamboree staff will not clean or empty personal toilets

Medical Needs with Power

  • Space and Allocation: Space for tents requiring power for medical needs is limited but we hope to meet demand. If you haven't already requested one of these spaces, please contact registration
  • Team Pitching: Teams cannot pitch together due to limited space in this area. We will try to allow one additional tent to support those with medical needs if space permits
  • For those using cPAP machines: we highly recommend you bring a rechargeable device as we cannot guarantee uninterrupted electrical supply.

Main Staff Campsite

  • Vehicle Restrictions: No vehicles are allowed on the main staff campsite. A small number of equipment trolleys will be available, however, we recommend you bring your own if possible
  • Toilets: Staff do not need to bring personal toilets or toilet tents. Onsite facilities are available.
  • Gas: Gas use is prohibited in all tents
  • Party Tents and Gazebos: Allowed, but cannot be pitched until after the opening ceremony. Early-pitched structures will need to be taken down
  • Designated Areas: Pitch only in designated areas, keeping all parts of the tent including guy ropes within these areas and walkways must be kept clear at all times.
  • Zones Available:
    • Medical (without power)
    • Under 18 staff
    • Quiet Area (silence not guaranteed)
    • Team Zones (may not be exclusive due to space constraints with 1000 staff to accommodate)

Arrival Instructions

  • Registration: Report to the registration and staff support help desk in the main hub upon arrival to be allocated a pitching space
  • Tent Tags: All staff must use tent tags with their surname and contact number, attached near the main door of their tent/camper/caravan/trailer tent.
  • Refer to our Arrivals Process for more information.

By following these guidelines, we aim to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone at the staff campsite. Please remember we are all volunteers and arrivals day will be super busy and stressful for our staff.
