Role Overview

Lead the planning and delivery of the Staff Subcamp at EIJ 2028, ensuring that our hard-working Jamboree staff have a safe, organised and welcoming place to call home throughout the event. Oversee all provisions for the staff camping areas, uphold health and safety standards, and lead a team to build a positive, vibrant and inclusive community atmosphere for everyone living on-site. Report directly to the Director and Deputy Director of Subcamps.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain staff subcamp guidelines, policies and risk assessments to ensure safety and compliance
  • Map out and manage specialised camping zones, including general, additional assistance, under-18s and live-in vehicle camping
  • Work with infrastructure teams to plan and optimise site layout and communal facilities
  • Lead the arrival team in welcoming and correctly placing staff, tracking campers using a database and waterproof tent labelling system
  • Lead on staff subcamp theming and interactive challenges for adults and young people to build a vibrant camp community
  • Liaise with security to enforce quiet hours and maintain a peaceful on-site environment
  • Work closely with the Participant Subcamp Team to ensure consistency across all subcamps
  • Maintain electronic staff communication channels to share important updates
  • Attend planning meetings and training, and respond to communications in a timely and professional manner
  • Provide flexible, all-hands support across varied subcamp tasks as needed, on-site full time for the duration of the event

Who we are looking for

Organised and analytical individuals with the ability to manage logistics, map out physical spaces and maintain accurate electronic databases. Confident communicators who are comfortable liaising with different teams, including facilities and security, and communicating clearly with large volunteer groups, are needed. Knowledge of, or a willingness to learn, how to write risk assessments and subcamp policies is required. A positive, adaptable problem-solver with a cheerful disposition who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic event environment is essential.
