For those who like fun numbers, you’re in luck - there’s exactly 678 days to go until Essex International Jamboree 2028! We’re now officially closer to EIJ 2028 than EIJ 2024, so we are well into production behind-the-scenes at Jamboree HQ!
But this newsletter isn’t any old newsletter; we’ve got some very exciting announcements in this month’s edition, so get ready and let the excitement build - you’re not going to want to miss this!
While Essex International Jamboree is always a Celebration of Girlguiding and Scouting, each event is special in its own way. Each Jamboree is emblazoned with a unique theme, one chosen to excite, inspire and empower the young people of the world to chart their own futures!
In 2024, we took a trip around the world with our river-themed subcamps, and back in 2016, we celebrated individual pioneers who made their mark on the world. A different theme for each event allows us to embrace this diversity while also remembering that every event is A Celebration of Girlguiding and Scouting.
We are thrilled to exclusively reveal that the theme for EIJ 2028 is film genres! Our theme reflects how our participants are the stars of the show with the Jamboree acting as the location in which their shared stories unfold.
Why is it that you’re always waiting for an announcement and then two show up at once (or is that buses…)?
We’re excited to share that in 2028, we’ll be returning to Boyton Hall, near Chelmsford. As our home since 2012, we cannot wait to welcome thousands of Scouts and Guides from across the world to Essex International Jamboree. Our Jamboree is located on a greenfield site just an hour outside of London with excellent transport connections. See you there!
Our beloved EIJ mascot Peggy is back on tour!
She’s looking forward to visiting groups across the country and beyond - we cannot wait to see what you’ve got planned for her, whether it is a themed evening, thrilling weekend camp or even an international trip away. Peggy is up for it all!
In previous years, Peggy travelled to the Monaco Grand Prix, went skiing, and visited Scout and Guide groups all over the UK, as well as dropping in on plenty of other jamborees. Peggy has already visited Poacher International Jamboree, WINGS Jamboree, and Hautbois Fest, as well as popping over to Riffhams Scout Campsite with Jamboree Chief Paul Walker to visit Scouts and Explorers heading to Iceland next year (pictured below)!
We want to see 2028’s Peggy even more well-travelled than her predecessors! If Peggy visits your group, you’re welcome to decorate her with a badge or simply sign her - she has already been signed by Chief Scout Dwayne Fields, Chief Guide Tracey Foster, and Scouts Chief Volunteer Carl Hankinson. Peggy is looking forward to her travels before she becomes the first peg in the ground in July 2028!
