The Yangtze river is the largest river in Asia stretching 3,915 miles (6,300km) long. In China it is known as the ‘Changjiang’. There is also a song about the Yangtze river called “Yangtze Kiang Song”. The lyrics to this is: We love the Yangtze, Yangtze-Kiang, Flowing from Yushu down to Ching-Kiang, Passing through Chung King, Wuhan and Hoo-Kow Three thousand miles, but it gets there somehow. Oh! Szechuan’s the province and Shanghai is the port, And the Yangtze is the river that we all support.
Yangtze Subcamp’s challenge is all about trying to turn shapes into objects without having them overlap and you have to use all the shapes. “One of the hardest challenges the kids have to complete” - Maddy (Subcamp media).
Yangtze subcamp is described as being enthusiastic and has loads of positive vibes. “Every morning and before each activity we have a cheer up session, this is where we hype everyone up”. “ We get up on the stage and dance. We've done the macarena, cha cha slide, electric slide” - Maddy (1st Bucksfall rangers). Everyday the Subcamp team goes around and does a welfare check on all the kids and adults to make sure nothings wrong.
Yangtze Subcamp has loads of activities for the kids to enjoy throughout the day and night. These range from carnivals all the way to puzzles and coloring.
Bryanny, Sophie and Mariet (1st Longstratten guides) said “they wouldn't want to be a part of any other Subcamp”.
