Whether you are an outdoor enthusiast, a prepper or are just interested in self reliance, the Survival zone is the place for you! This morning, Nile Subcamp tried out the activities.
The activities available to participants include fire-lighting, woggle making, knot tying, sumo wrestling and African drumming. Each activity allowed participants to freely move around and learn new techniques and defence skills for the future.
African drumming provided a range of rhythms and teaching participants improvisation skills… making so much noise in the tent! The music was beautiful and those in the zone were engaged and dancing! Participants Callum and Gracen from 1st Great Bentley Scout Group said ‘it is something different and gives us the skills to use in the future’.
St John Ambulance was a popular station teaching groups life-saving skills including CPR techniques. A group of girls said ‘being able to help others in emergency situations will benefit ambulance services’.
Bushscout leaders were providing woodcutting and twisting of cords for the woggles and some bracelet making. I see you Mr Nick!
Firelighting was an educational experience for those young people who have never experienced it, with some participants saying ‘I had a great time, the different skills I am learning at Survival are great!’
