Have you noticed the busy crew around the stages making everything happen on time? That's the stage crew who use all sorts of cool equipment to jazz up our events - lighting, radios, sound and even pyrotechnics! They work through all our amazing acts including the opening ceremony, EIJ presents and our themed nights, working hard for it to go smoothly.

Stage crew member Eddie Hails from 3rd Rise Park Guides said “no other role is closer to making it all happen, and I get to see my work's results." It's also a great opportunity to help strengthen and build skills to utilise in other events, as Eddie's coworker, Edward Shipley from 11th Hinckley, says: “being part of it allows me to strengthen my skills and it’s relevant to my career” and that there is “no better way to train than on the job”.

There are some things in performances that we never think about, in particular how much work was put in behind the scenes to make things happen. The hay in the main arena for the Barn Dance, the giant sparklers for the opening ceremony and our favourite songs playing around the outdoor stage. These were all coordinated by our stage crew, but who organises the stage crew? Stage manager Lucia from Girl Guides Australia! She loves this job as she is studying this field in Uni, Lucia said “I’m loving it and my team!”.

So next time you see cool effects, lighting or sound, think of the team behind the scenes making it happen, We love you stage crew!
