Cake O'Clock, that crucial time of day when the army of staff just need a small, sweet treat to keep themselves going until the next meal, is brought to you by Wendy and Sarah, the mother - daughter duo! They actually run cake o'clock in the staff comforts area, which is a full time job! They prepare food and drink, talk to everyone like a welfare team, do mountains of washing for team uniforms and bring smiles to everyone’s faces. A frequent cake o' 'clock participant said “They and the comfort team take care of everyone on staff at EIJ, making sure we are all well fed, watered and just having a good time.” Our cake saviours have actually “never done comfort before” can you believe that! “Everyone is happy when they come to us, we love to watch them get a break and have some cake and drinks”.

Wendy and Sarah have been “involved all their lives in Scouts; from the subcamp team, to taking our troops to camp in 2016 and 2012, we even did catering for up to 300 people in build week”. But having never been staff members in comforts before, it is evidently a much larger scale than they were expecting. However, they both said “everyone is happy when they come to us because they get a break with cake and drinks”. Staff comforts provides “lovely homemade cakes” and the pair have even brought their own mixers and ovens to keep up with demand!

Who knew that these camp icons provided a laundry service too? They love to help with the washing and this allows them to meet other people. Wendy and Sarah said “it's almost like welfare, people sit down here for a chat and they really enjoy the art of conversation”. This amazing mother and daughter duo are looking for more volunteers next time, so if you feel that tea and cake is your calling… comforts is for you!
