Tucked in behind the Soft Rock Café, you’ll find the 14-17 retreat, the part of the camp set aside specifically for our older participants to relax, make friends and try the marvelous mocktails with a river-related twist. Bee, Elsie and Anna from East Reading Explorers are camping on Murray Subcamp and “are excited to try the drinks!”

There is plenty of seating both inside and outside at the retreat with board games and cards to help yourself to. The atmosphere is chilled but vibrant with lots of chatting, laughing, games and new friends.

Providing space for our older participants to be themselves and relax is a vital part of the jamboree. “We are the only people at our camp that can get in here and it’s just nice to get away” Joselyn from 5th Thundersley Scouts told me. She, Ellie and Christian are camping on Nile Subcamp and were enjoying their Mississippi (strawberry with mint and a hint of lemon) and Nile (orange and agave with notes of hibiscus) mocktails, whilst telling me about their day spent on the activity zones. “Motion was really fun, the segways were my favorite. My friend and I went on them twice” was Joselyn’s verdict whilst Christian favored seeing Ellie get crashed into!

The overall vibe of the 14-17 retreat was fun, laughter, and a chilled atmosphere. As Ellie put it, “We can make friends and be happy, life is too short so you’ve got to live it!” So if you are aged 14-17 at the jamboree, be sure to try this place out. It has the perfect balance of upbeat pizzazz and space to relax and unwind. Pop along and work your way down the mocktail menu! The 14-17 retreat is open 7:30pm – 10:30pm every day of the jamboree as part of the extensive evening activities on offer.
