The Essex International Jamboree (EIJ) takes place in a green field site where all amenities are temporary and provided only for the duration of the event. There are no permanent buildings or roadways on the site. Unlike some large scale events, groups are responsible for providing both camping equipment and cooking facilities for their leaders and participants.

UK Guide & Ranger Groups

To comply with Girlguiding regulations EIJ organisers need to ensure we have the correct ratio of relevant Going Away With Licence holders at the event. Therefore, we are asking each Guide and Ranger Group attending EIJ2020 to have one leader with a Going Away With Licence (including camp module). This person can be volunteering as a staff member but must be sleeping with the Group.

Groups who do not have a licence holder can request to be twinned with a Group that has. Both Groups will need to agree to the arrangement and will camp alongside each other at the event.

The licence holder needs to be named on the REN form when submitted to your local commissioner for permission to camp. Full details about the Going Away With Licence can be found here.

UK Scout Groups

To comply with The Scout Association regulations, all Scout Groups attending EIJ2020 need to have a named Nights Away Permit holder (campsite or greenfield) who must be camped with the Group or camped alongside. This person can be volunteering as a staff member but must be sleeping with the Group.

Groups who do not have a licence holder can request to be twinned with a Group that has. Both Groups will need to agree to the arrangement and will camp alongside each other at the event.

Full details about the Nights Away Permit Scheme can be found here.
