With over 8,000 people on site, EIJ 2024 became the biggest village in Essex for a week - approximately eight times larger than the nearby village of Roxwell. However, that's not the only crazy statistic about our temporary home...
Starting off with retail - did you pay a visit to The Soft Rock Cafe? Well many of you did, as they sold 11,700 milkshakes over the course of the week. That's enough to require a herd of 450 cows to keep them supplied, which would require a grazing field about three times the size of the jamboree itself!
Jamart sold 844 customized t-shirts and jumpers thoughout the week, and used up 519 rolls of receipt paper. They couldn't tell us exactly how many bags of sweets they sold, but apparently we bought out a large amount of the county's supply!
Over 11,000 mini doughnuts were served down in the village, while over in Peggy's Diner over 20,000 sausages and 9,800 eggs were served to our amazing volunteer staff! Hot Stuff catering really were amazing as always!
On the theme of staff, together they used nearly 300 radios to keep everything running smoothly, getting through 500 batteries each day. The icons Wendy and Sarah together ran 160 loads of washing for members of staff (especially Brown Squadron!) and loaded the dishwasher 10 times a day! Thank you both for taking care of us throughout the week.
The staff hub was also the delivery destination for over 300 Amazon parcels throughout the week - including a full-size fridge! If one of those was yours, don't forget to change your delivery address before you order something else!
Together as a camp we used up 2.5 Olympic-size swimming pools' worth of water, all of which was graciously donated by Essex and Suffolk water - who were very impressed when they came to visit during the week!
Over on the programme zones, the Tech Lab 3D-printed over 2,000 name tags over the course of the week! Meanwhile, one participant managed to decode over 250 Morse code signals without making a single mistake, far higher than anyone else, including the staff running it! (Who are very keen for her to join them as staff in 2028.) They also recorded over 1,700 weather bulletins in their TV studio - surely one of them must have been accurate!
Over in the Enterprise zone, they used up 170Kg of icing sugar making delicious sweets to sell, while the trainers from BASC fired 25,000 clays during thousands of lessons they gave throughout the week in our On Target zone.
