Anyone got a picnic blanket? Today at the main stage, the subcamps came together to share a picnic. Libby and Sofia from Southend thought the picnic was a “really cute” idea, and “really nice to have everyone in one place, because everyone is usually split during the day and to see actually how many people are at the jamboree.” Georgia, from Tasmania Girl Guides “loved to experience the caring nature of all the subcamps and countries coming together to share lunch.” “It was a great experience for the girls.”

I don’t know if you heard, but after the picnic each subcamps’ talent show winners came onto the main stage to compete for gold. Each performer showed their amazing talents and wowed the judges, Paul and Karen, our amazing and lovely camp Chiefs. Aoife from Burnham Hitcham Scouts was one of those performers, who did an excellent job singing Naughty from Matilda. She chose this song as “everyone thought I look like Matilda”, this only encouraged her to change her song from ‘Valerie’ “only half an hour before” she went on stage. She was feeling “quite nervous” but, as the song went on, she gained more confidence and the nerves floated away, ultimately winning her second place overall.

Bianca from Germany was the Shinano winner of the talent show - she sung her heart out on stage to try win it all. “I decided to go up on stage only 5 minutes before our talent show started” wow! I wonder if she ever thought her quick decision would make, her end up on the main stage in front of the whole jamboree. “I loved performing on the big stage”, “loved all my friends cheering me on and everyone listing in”, and “it was so exciting to be on stage there was adrenaline running through my body” sounds like Bianca has had a memorable jamboree.

Our fabulous 3rd place winner was Archie, whose performance of Poor, Unfortunate Souls wonderfully shocked the audience. Wondering who our 1st place winner was? Well that was Summer, from Nile subcamp. Summer shocked the audience with her incredible performance of I Dreamed a Dream from Les Misérables, winning over not just Paul and Karen, but the crowd as well! She was absolutely amazing and thoroughly deserved first place. Well done Summer!

The Chiefs Karen and Paul ended the afternoon off with a memorable speech, thanking all the volunteer staff and campers for joining them on this year’s Jamboree. Fleur from Yangtze sang A Million Dreams, and Karen’s response was “This jamboree was our million dreams” really showing how much work and effort goes into making the last week a fun and enjoyable one. So, we thank you, Karen and Paul, along with all the volunteer staff behind the scenes and anyone else who helped in any way. As Paul said “we have all come together this week as Scouts and Guides, our paths may now separate, but the stories we take with us is what binds us”
