Unique and Fascinating Finds: From Harps to Flamingo Floats
With over 8,000 participants onsite, it’s no surprise that the camp has become a treasure trove of interesting and unique items. Today, we took a stroll around every Subcamp to uncover some of the most intriguing and unexpected things people have brought with them.
Musical Marvels
Musical instruments seem to be a popular choice among campers. We spotted a trumpet and even a piano in various Subcamps. However, the standout musical find has to be at the Mississippi Subcamp, where a piano is available for anyone looking to showcase their musical talent. The Mississippi Subcamp is also home to the largest flag we've ever seen—spanning nearly the length of a four-window marquee.
Adding to the musical diversity, the 1st Illogan group from Wales, staying on one of our sub-camps, has a leader who brought a harp. Not only did he bring this exquisite instrument, but he also plays it beautifully, contributing to the camp's unique soundscape.
Flags and Floats
Flags are a common sight, with many participants bringing their own to represent their heritage or group. Most of these flags are about the length of an adult, but the Mississippi Subcamp's enormous flag truly stands out.
As the summer heat blazes down, one can’t help but seek out ways to cool off. Enter the flamingo pool floaty, a whimsical and practical item perfect for beating the heat. It’s not just a source of amusement but a much-needed respite from the sun.
Practical and Decorative Additions
Practicality has not been overlooked amidst all the creativity. In the Shinano Subcamp, a group from Bromley in London has set up a clothes rail neatly displaying all their uniforms, showcasing both organisation and style. Another Subcamp has added a touch of whimsy with a giraffe and castle decorating their gate, adding a fairytale charm to the environment. While down in the Amazon there is a full climbing wall to have a go at! Even one of our photographers gave it a go!
Perhaps one of the most unexpected and practical finds is a sink with running water and a wastewater tank. This addition ensures cleanliness and convenience, proving that some campers have thought of everything, including the kitchen sink!
