FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Scouts and Guides have flocked to Essex International Jamboree, the biggest joint event for people in Guiding and Scouting in Europe this year. It has returned to a 120 acre green-field site at Boyton Cross near Chelmsford - with participants coming from over 40 countries, including Australia, Kenya and even, against all odds, Ukraine.
The participants will be camping together for seven days and nights until 3 August, effectively creating one of the largest villages in Essex during the week. This event takes place every four years, but had to be cancelled 2020 due to the COVID pandemic.
Participants have the opportunity to take part in over 100 different activities in 24 zones over the course of the Jamboree. The activities are based around fun, adventure, challenge and responsibility, all designed to showcase everything that is best in Guiding and Scouting - including archery, caving, sailing, kayaking, survival skills and much more
The theme of the Jamboree is ‘A Celebration of Girlguiding and Scouting’. Young people have come together for a unique opportunity to try something new, create lasting memories and make international friendships.
The event is led by Joint Jamboree Chiefs Karen Packer and Paul Walker who are also volunteers.
Paul Walker, Jamboree Chief representing the Scouts, expressed his admiration for the volunteer team: "The dedication and professionalism of our volunteers is truly inspiring. Since the cancellation of the 2020 event due to the pandemic, our team has been meticulously planning this £2M Jamboree, ensuring it will be an unforgettable experience for all involved."

Essex International Jamboree 2024 is an extraordinary event, with Scouts and Guides only here with the hard work of dedicated and passionate adult volunteers.
