Welcome to Bolt's Track
Named after Usain Bolt the fastest man to ever walk the planet. Having achieved multiple World and Olympic gold medals, not to mention the matter of running the 100 metres in 9.58 seconds, Usain is truly a once-in-a-lifetime athlete.
Although a sports-themed Subcamp there will be activities that suit everyone. At Bolt’s Track it will be our aim to make sure you have as much fun as possible, make friendships that will last forever and enjoy the GOLD winning experience that is on offer at the Jamboree.
Bolt’s Track Subcamp Team
I’m James Mickley, Subcamp Leader at Bolt’s Track. I’m an ADC Cubs and Cub Leader.
At EIJ2012 I led the Turtle Island Subcamp Team (voted best Subcamp, closely followed by Sydney) and have worked on Subcamps at both Essex Jamboree 2004 and 2008, and a Participant in 2000.
Although it is a massive challenge I have always found it the most rewarding job to do at a Jamboree giving back to the “new” generation and making so many new friends.
I’m most looking forward to Beating Rob Carter (Deputy Subcamp Leader) in our “Race Around The World” Challenge!
I’m Robert Carter, currently help out as a Cubs Sectional Assistant and a Queen Scout.
I was a member of the IST on the 2007 World Jamboree working as part of the “Giant Hat Crew” in Guest Services. I have previously attended the Essex Jamboree as a participant in 2000 and 2004.
I absolutely loved my time at the Jamboree when I attended as a participant and so I want to make sure that the next generation of Young People enjoy it as much as I did.
What you are most looking forward to – Making some great new friends and working as part of an awesome team. Also beating James Mickley (Subcamp Leader) in our “Race Around the World” challenge!
Down to a Tee!
A Jamboree truly isn’t a Jamboree until you’ve donned your camp t-shirt emblazoned with the EIJ logo proud for all to see. You were there, the Essex International Jamboree 2016.
Once again Jamart, EIJ’s very own retailers, will be opening their doors (and webpages) for you to get your fill of those Jamboree wardrobe essentials. This year there is a range of tees, onsies and other clothing options, for you to shout about the event as a whole or showcase your sub-camp allegiance.
Helping you to be prepared these will be available for home delivery or pre-order using the onsite click & collect.
Together with clothing options abundant, Jamart will be offering an exciting range of souvenirs, everything from woggles and phonecases to shoelaces and special limited edition teddies. Speaking of cool new arrivals this year you will be able to purchase a campfire poncho and limited edition activity badges to adorn it. Plus, for the sweet toothed among you the range will not miss out treats to satisfy, whether it is a chilled drink or cheeky packet of sweeties. The winners of the gateway competition are in! A big well done to everyone for their wonderful gateways, but the winner of our competition is… 5th Billericay! Congratulations!
At the beginning of the Jamboree, when asked if he liked ‘smores, this old Scouter had to admit he had no idea what they were. A week later, that couldn’t be more from the truth as I today witnessed Mendes’ Rainforest take on and beat the Guinness World Record for the most s’mores made simultaneously. […]
The flood gates opened for participants yesterday as they got to roam the site freely, experiencing activities they had enjoyed earlier this week. It was a beautiful day which made Wet ‘n Wild and Up and Under even more popular than usual, and the atmosphere was buzzing. In addition to the already existing activities there […]
-Ger H As we come to the end of Essex International Jamboree, each of the amazing subcamp teams have gotten in touch with us and asked us to convey their final words of comfort, wisdom and inspiration. Nightingale’s Ward: “Gertrude says: “Be safe, be clean. See you in 2020!” Westwood’s Wardrobe: “Work, Work, Work it […]
Jake Dixon Steve, a member of the Bolt’s Track subcamp team would like to say “thank you” to everyone who has sponsored him for his skydive to fund raise for a trip to Mongolia. So far you have helped him raise £250
Jake Dixon 5th Billericay from Bolt’s Track are obsessed with pants, even their gateway is a pair of pants! They held a competition to see who could put on the most pants in 1 minute. The winner was Anna who put 19 on in 60 seconds!
Earlier in the week you may have read about the Senior Section Spectacular Challenge Badge which you can earn by completing various activities around camp. Well, the first four badges have now been given out and they’ve gone to a group of Scouts from Braintree District Explorers, Bolt’s Track. They have been working towards the […]
On Target is a zone for all those sharp eyed participants on EIJ, as it involves a number of activities that focus on having a good aim and great hand to eye coordination! However, if like me you are totally inept at anything involving throwing, shooting, firing and generally aiming, never fear! These activities are […]
Monday morning saw the usually tranquil Bolt’s Track turn into an action packed but bijou Winter Olympic park. Wheelbarrow bobsleds, paired skiing, archery and making lots of noise were the events of the day. Boltarians turned out in force to compete in these inspiring and well-designed events. A very Boltic modern take on the classic […]
Making new friendships is one of the greatest features of any international camp and when those friendships span countries and seas it really is quite incredible. We caught up with ISCA ESU & Welsh Dragons ESU who have been communicating with the 4th Midland Group from Canada, they are both camped in Bolt’s Track and […]
Tucked away behind Nightingale’s Ward is the mad world of the Wet and Wild. And Water-World it is! (Congratulations if you survived that pun…) Wet and Wild has everything to offer from Canoeing to Zorbing and even dinghy capsizing! This Jamboree is all about the future, and I am pleased to see that valuable life […]
Essex Jamboree 2016 is finally here.It has been amazing to hear how fantastic and excited you have been in the build up to Jamboree. We have equally been excited about your arrival. As I currently sit here I can see the whole subcamp and a grand total of 4 tents are pitched. I know by the […]

Your Camping Area As you may be aware, the Essex International Jamboree takes place in an enormous field north of Chelmsford that we will transform into an amazing Village. However, as with all town-planning, we have to consider every piece of space and utilise it in the best way. This means that you will be […]
